Church Norton - Pagham Harbour NR

A dawn visit to try and pin down the elusive Red-necked Grebe (Podiceps grisegena) which was first seen on 17th by Bernie Forbes et al. I could see several birds from the end of the boardwalk towards the eastern end of the spit....GREAT!!!

After a good 20 mins stomp along horrid shingle, I was very relieved to find the bird off the very east end of the Church Norton spit. It showed briefly before diving and then seemingly not reappearing... I then refound it some 25 mins later c200 yds west of where it was before?!?! The 2 Slav Grebes also had me baffled by there dissapearing act! A good bird gripped back on Mr Eade though!!!
