170th Sussex Bird of '09

A trip to Splash Point this morning produced my 170th Sussex bird of 2009. A fine pair of Garganey (Anas querquedula) which were migrating eastwards albeit briefly landing on the sea for a nice view of particularly the drake. Also 5 Common Scoter (Melanitta nigra), 10 Avocet (Recurvirostra avosetta) and a Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis).

No sign of any Wheatears at Newhaven Tide Mills. Plenty of Skylarks (Alauda arvensis) in full song was a very nice in the lovely warm morning sunshine. Spring is now in full swing!
